Ultra-Violet - Ultra-Violet light is the form of light that can do most damage to slides. It is present in sunlight and particularly in florescent light. It is not good at penetrating glass however, and so slides under glass of some form are relatively protected from it.

Viewer - The Victorians produced Slide Viewers. Typically they have a lens to view the slide and a mirror to light the back of the slide.
