The Society's October 2007 Meeting
The Society holds its October meeting in London.
This meeting was largely devoted to practical workshop activity and the creation of some very special optical projection devices. In the morning Peter Gillies explained how to make your own Kaleidoscope lens. Then Dennis Stevens produced some remarkable effects with the aid of a simple roll of clear sellotape and polarisation glass. Richard Rigby followed with some ingenious uses for old overhead projector parts, including the basis for a simple camera obscura. To round off the morning Mo Heard revealed some intriguing titbits found on the internet.
The afternoon began with two alternative workshop sessions The first on how to get the most out of your lantern material – even the poor stuff - from the Chairman, Mervyn Heard. The second session was led by Lester Smith and covered lantern slide restoration. As a natural follow on from Lester’s workshop, Gordon Casbeard and Tony Brown exhibited a set of slides of the Dinorwic Slate Quarry, which had been found in a very distressed state but were now remarkably restored.
